HERStory | Meet the Artisan Nydia

What made you start your business?
I was looking for a solution for my extremely dry skin since nothing on the market really worked for me. On a whim, I explored the idea of making something myself. After doing some initial research of ingredients in moisturizers, I was shocked to learn the types of ingredients were being used. Many was harsh, toxic and banned in Europe. At that point, I tried to reference what was being used in natural products only to realized that in 2004, there wasn’t too many options out there. I figured if I was looking for natural products then others would be too. This was the beginning of me developing an all-natural skincare brand, a precursor to what you know now as Choiselle.

What is the inspiration behind your brand’s products?
I was inspired by my childhood growing up in the Caribbean, where I spent hours at the knee (or under foot!) of my grandmother, watching closely as she crafted hair and skincare concoctions for from organic botanicals harvested from the family garden. After reflecting back to these simple, natural recipes and the authentically, natural way of life from which she came, I created this brand.

What’s ahead for Choiselle?
New product launches, sourcing, growing/harvesting our own ingredients in St. Lucia, distribution to other regions.
